The New Blackwattle Bay Precinct
Late last year the State Government of NSW announced the design of the new Sydney Fish Markets – Blackwattle Bay.
Expected to be completed by 2023, the new fish market was initially announced by the State Government in 2016. Designed by BVN and Aspect architectural studios the Sydney Fish Market will revitalise the foreshore areas of Pyrmont, Blackwattle Bay & Glebe.
The $250 million development will feature new public wharves, a waterfront promenade, a ferry stop, community spaces and views onto the harbour and ANZAC Bridge. The centrepiece of the new design, a timber and aluminium roof resembling fish scales floating over the building - which will house food kiosks, bars and fresh seafood markets.
The new Blackwattle bay precinct will be within walking distance from Glebe – just a short walk through leafy Wentworth Park. The precinct is part of a larger revitalisation project taking place throughout Sydney’s city & city fringe.
Sydney’s CBD and fringe suburbs are currently undergoing large infrastructure and re-development projects – re-shaping these suburbs from what they once were, to what they are to become. Projects include the light rail and Central station precinct redevelopment, along with private residential and commercial developments.
